Mets Back to square one yet again.

They say that in sports your won-loss record is the best indicator of whether you are good or bad team. The Mets, after squeaking out another win over the lowly Bucs,  are once again not a bad team. Nor are they a good team. So I guess that makes the Mets average.  At 73-73, the Mets who are still not officially eliminated from playoff contention, can continue to try and separate themselves from severe mediocrity. Maybe they can finish 5-10 games above .500? We shall see.

Mets continue road roll. Double Indians 8-4

The New York Mets continued their May/June tear, with the best record in baseball over the last 22 games going 17-5 since May 22. The offensive struggles on the road seem to be a distant nightmare, as they have scored 34 runs over their last 5 road games and scored at east 5 runs in an inning in their third straight game. Not coincidently, David Wright has 22 rbi in that span. Jonathan Niese improved to 4-2 pitching seven innings of three run ball. Angel Pagan was 3 for 5, with 3 rbi, Wright plated two, and Ike Davis, Jason Bay, and Jeff Francoeur each had 2 hits and an rbi each. The Mets will go for the sweep Thursday night with R.A Dickey facing Jake Westbrook.
Note-The Mets hit seven doubles in a game for the second time this season.

Mets make French Soup out of Marlins!

The New York Mets completed a three game sweep of the Florida Marlins, on the strength of Jeff Francoeur's game tying three run 7th inning homerun. It was payback of sorts for The Mets who were swept by the Marlins in a four game series earlier in the year. The Mets continue to play well at home and have now won eight straight games at Citi Field.

Back to Square One.

Well it took all of 36 games for Met fans to reach the first of many season benchmarks. With their team in what can only be called a severe batting slump, The Mets lost to the Florida Marlins 7 to 2 for their ninth defeat in thirteen games, bringing their record to the .500 mark at 18-18. The meat of the order (Reyes, Bay, Wright, and Davis) were a combined two for fourteen with only one run scored. Oliver Perez, in one of the most depressing starts by a Mets pitcher, tossed a dead fish in 3-1/3 innings, giving up four homeruns (Dan Uggla 2, Gaby Sanchez, and Cris Coghlan), seven runs, and nine hits. The Mets should pull a Steve Trachsel by sending Perez down to single A ball so he can get his s@*t together. Pat Misch or Dillon Gee may be options. Forget the strike zone. Perez needs to gain two to three MPH on his fastball. If he can get to 92 MPH, them just maybe he will have the confidence to regain some of his command.

Highlight-Angel Pagan drove in his 16th and 17th runs of the year with a double in the fifth inning.
